Beginnings Vision
The community of San Luis Obispo County is dedicated to ensuring that all children will receive any interventions, treatment and support they may need to reach their highest level of growth and development; that they will live safely in their homes, succeed in school, have meaningful friendships and grow up to be healthy, strong, and resilient citizens of our community
Foundational Beliefs
This plan is based on the following beliefs:
- Substance abuse is a social problem with health consequences;
- Substance abuse is a chronic and relapsing disease that interferes with the healthy functioning of families;
- Any substance use during pregnancy is potentially harmful;
- Cessation of substance use at any point in pregnancy is beneficial;
- Children need a stable home free from substance abuse for healthy growth and development; and
- Quality treatment works if it is well matched to the needs of the person.
Goals
- All pregnant women found to be in need of treatment will be referred to treatment that is appropriate to their needs.
- Effective family-centered and/or gender-specific treatment services will be available to all pregnant and parenting women who need them.
